Why Food Is Not The Enemy

We are genetically programmed to enjoy eating, but we’ve been taught that food is the enemy.

And we need to restrict what we eat if we want to lose weight.

And that certain foods are bad for us and will make us fat.

How unfair.

Well yes, it would be. If it were true.

But it’s not.

And being taught that we can’t eat what we want, whenever we want, has led to an obsession with food which is not only unhealthy, it’s also misleading.

Food Is Not The Enemy

Eating pizza, and ice-cream, and chocolate, and schnitzel & chips (one of my absolute favs) is not what makes us gain weight.

What makes us gain weight is years of dieting which has slowed our metabolisms down to a crawl. And now we can’t eat normally anymore, or in many cases, control what we eat.

What you need is a metabolism reset. And a mindset change.

Sure, nutrition is important when it comes to putting fuel into your body, and it’s important to eat a balanced diet so your body gets what it needs each day.

But, the foods you eat have absolutely nothing to do with weight loss.

So many diets have been created and publicised over the years, and so many articles and books written about diets. And the landscape changes almost daily with new findings suggesting that carbs are so fattening and therefore bad for you, fasting is great for helping you lose weight, fat is fattening and so bad for you, no wait, fat is actually really good for you and helps you feel fuller and lose weight.

Wait, What?

Not only is it impossible to keep up with, but if any of it is true, why is the world fatter than it’s ever been? And so much unhappier?

All these diets, and articles, and books, and celebrities all miss the point. When it comes to losing weight, and keeping it off, it’s not about the food.

It’s your relationship with food, and the habits you have around it, that’s important.

And the good news is, that’s something you can change. You weren’t born craving carbs, or conditioned to stuff nachos down your throat while sitting on the couch after a long day at work, trying to drown your sorrows with food.

You weren’t born overeating or restricting yourself, only eating what you ‘think’ is right or wrong, good or bad, healthy or unhealthy.

And the good news is, you can reset your metabolism, and take back control over what you eat and when.
